WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Thomas' second-half charge Saturday afternoon at Keiser (Fla.) fell just short as the Night Hawks lost 3-2 at Arrigo-Veceillo Field in The Sun Conference (TSC) play.
Keiser (5-3, 3-2 TSC) led 3-0 at intermission following goals in the sixth, 22nd and 42nd minutes. Amine Meski connected with Henry Brzycki (3) on a through ball for the first score. A Meski (4) rebound found the back of the net for the second goal. Meski's second assist Saturday came on a Jake Stanton (2) goal during a two-on-one opportunity.
After being outshot 7-5 in the first 45 minutes, Thomas (3-6-1, 1-2-1 TSC) dominated possession in the second half, outshooting the Seahawks 9-0, as the visitors doubled up the home team (14-7) in shots over the course of the match.
"We played a disappointing first half but showed a renewed energy in the second," Night Hawk coach
Ricky Zambrano said.
Connor Moriarty (1) got the Night Hawks on the board in the 71st minute following passes by
Leo Thompson and
Gavin Rochford-Smith. Thompson was credited with his second assist Saturday in the 81st minute after his shot deflected off Seahawk goalkeeper Lee Clark and to the right foot of
Sam Eyes (5), who tickled the twine from 10 yards out. However, Thomas was unable to find the equalizer in the final three minutes despite a pair of corner kicks and shot opportunities.Â
"We had our chances throughout but did not capitalize and were penalized for our errors," Zambrano commented.
Four Keiser players had one shot on goal.
Thompson and Eyes registered two shots on goal apiece.
Clark (5-3) totaled six saves in 90 minutes.
Night Hawk netminder
Ben Barnes (2-3-1) made one save in the first half.
Lee Howarth played the final 45 minutes between the pipes.
Thomas held an edge in corner kicks 10-2, including 6-0 in the second stanza. Keiser was whistled for 10 fouls compared to just five called on the Green and White.
The Night Hawks continue league play Wednesday, Oct. 11, against SCAD Savannah (Ga.). Kickoff from TU Soccer Complex is set for 3:30 p.m. ET.
