THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Five different Night Hawks scored in Saturday's 6-2 The Sun Conference (TSC) win over Warner (Fla.), their sixth-straight win in the series, at TU Soccer Complex.
Salvador Marin totaled two goals and one assist for the Green and White, while
Leo Thompson and
Malcom Frago Mayers each had one goal and two assists on Homecoming and Thomas Area Soccer Association Boys Day.
The six goals are a season-high for the Green and White and most in a game since an 8-0 win over Bethel (Tenn.) on Sept. 3, 2016. The Night Hawks improve to 35-10-2 in Thomasville since 2013.
Thomas (5-6-1, 3-2-1 TSC) scored five-straight goals to open the match, starting in the 28th minute when a Thompson (8) header tickled the twine past Warner (4-4-3, 3-2-1 TSC) netminder Christian de Souza following a cross from
Sam Eyes. Coach
Ricky Zambrano's squad led by one goal at intermission.
Logan Moriarty (1) finished a play with is head in front of the net in the 50th minute to push the difference to two, as Frago Mayers and
Joao Victor Felix were credited with assists. In the 63rd minute, Thompson sent a long pass into the box to Frago Mayers, whose one-touch pass to
Jose Carlos Gonzalez Avellaneda (1) was finished with a goal. Marin's first goal Saturday came in the 68th minute after Thompson collected a lose ball and chipped it into the box to Marin to make the score 4-0. A Marin one-touch pass to Frago Mayers (1) in the 72nd minute found the back of the net to push the difference to five.
Ranier de Jesus (6) got the Royals on the board in the 83rd minute on a successful penalty kick. A long pass from Priit Peedo to Walternir Beaubrun (1) ended in a goal in the 85th minute, but Marin (3) answered 47 seconds later off a
Nicola Monelli cross into the box for the final tally.
Thompson totaled four shots on goal, as nine different Night Hawks posted at least one.
Three different Royals had one shot on goal.
Goalkeeper
Lee Howarth (3-3) made one save in 90 minutes for the win.
De Souza collected nine saves in 90 minutes in defeat.
Thomas outshot the visitors 30-5, as 12 different Night Hawks had at least one. The Night Hawks had 15 shots on goal compared to only three by Warner. Zambrano's group held an edge in corner kicks, 8-1.Â
Thomas travels to NCAA Division II member Columbus State (Ga.) for a neutral site match against No. 7 Georgia Gwinnett on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in a rematch of last season's National Championship opening round contest won by the Night Hawks in overtime.
