Night Hawks Split with Florida Memorial in Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team fell in the first game, 4-3, and took the second game, 6-3, Saturday against Florida Memorial at Harry T. Moore Baseball Field.

The Night Hawks went to 18-28, 5-15 in The Sun Conference, while the Lions fell to 7-37, 4-18 on the season. The two teams complete the series 11 a.m. Saturday in Miami Gardens, Fla.

GAME ONE
JR Cruess doubled to left center and put the Night Hawks up 2-0 in the second inning. Florida Memorial even scored in the seventh inning on a sacrifice fly to right by Brian Gonzalez. In the top of the 10th, Reed Melcolm singled to the left side that scored Jeremy Crosby and put TU up 3-2. Thomas walked in the tying run in the bottom of the inning. Emilio Marrufo ended the game with a single to short that drove in Ashton Martinez.

Jordan Martin threw seven innings with two runs on eight hits and struck out seven, while Joshua Roye pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits and one strikeout.

GAME TWO
In the second inning, Timmy Roszell grounded out but scored Tanner Elsbend in the process and put the Night Hawks up 1-0. Austin Simmons later scored on a wild throw in the same inning. Gant Highsmith but TU on the scoreboard again in the fourth when he scored on a wild pitch. Johnny Mendez singled to right center and scored Brian Gonzalez to cut the Night Hawks lead to 3-1. The Night Hawks added a run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings and held a 6-2 advantage.

Neal Hunter collected the win on seven innings pitched with two runs on five hits and struck out seven, while Tyler Leach threw one inning, gave up no hits and struck up one. Jacob Moye held the save and allowed one run on one hit and struck out two.
