THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University baseball team will travel to Lake Wales, Fla. Thursday, Friday and Saturday to partake in the Warner University Invitational.
The Night Hawks (7-15) snapped their six-game skid, defeating the Roosevelt Lakers 13-1 in seven innings. Senior Matt Brady has found recent success at the plate, collecting five hits in his last eight at-bats, including a three-run homer. The Thomas bats are on fire heading into the Warner Invitational, having scored 31 runs on 35 hits in the past two games.
A total of 9 teams will participate in the invitational: #12 Bellevue (Neb.), Cornerstone (Mich.), Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), Saint Ambrose (Iowa), Saint Francis (Ind.), Siena Heights (Mich.), Spring Arbor (Mich.), Thomas and the host, Warner. Mount Vernon is currently receiving votes.
On Thursday, Thomas takes on #12 Bellevue (
11-3) at 9:15 a.m., followed by Saint Ambrose (3-3) at 1 p.m. Saint Ambrose leads the NAIA in team batting average (.399). Junior Greg Wymer is third in NAIA in batting average (.591) and first in both hits (2.17) and runs batted in per game (1.83).
Thomas will continue invitational play Friday with contests against Siena Heights (
1-0) and Saint Francis (4-14). While Siena Heights is just starting their 2016 season, Saint Francis is looking for a turn-around in the Warner Invitational, having lost nine of their last ten games.
First pitches against Siena Heights and Saint Francis are slated for 9:15 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., respectively.
