Box Score Following a day when the two teams combined for 43 runs and 45 hits, Thomas University's
Kris Lee took a no-hitter to the 7th inning as the Night Hawks (7-15) beat Roosevelt University 13-1. The win at Varnedoe Stadium stoppped a 6-game skid for the home team.
A leadoff walk by Lee in the top of the first inning was erased quickly with a pickoff before the next pitch, and Lee took advantage to cruise through the inning. Another leadoff walk in the second inning was also erased immediately by way of a 6-4-3 double play on the next play. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Night Hawks left fielder
Yovanny Peguero led the inning off with a single, followed by a
Matthew Brady walk and a
Blake Summers bunt single to load the bases.
Dillon True knocked a sacrifice fly to center to score Peguero and give TU the 1-0 lead after 2 innings.
After a quick inning and a half, the Night Hawks exploded for 12 runs on 9 hits and 3 Laker errors in the bottom of the fourth inning. The big blow came from Brady who hit a line drive homer over the left field fence, driving home Peguero and courtesy runner
Austin Simmons, who was in for
Gavin Murphy who singled earlier. TU would add more runs on a RBI single from
Tanner Long, a 2-RBI single from
Gant Highsmith, and a 2 RBI double from Summers to take the 13-0 lead after 4 innings.
The other story of the day was the pitching performance by Lee. Facing the minimum until a fielders choice ended the 6th inning, Lee faced no trouble until a leadoff double and a single scored the only run for the Lakers in the top of the 7th. Lee need only 79 pitches in 6.1 innings, surrendering the two hits while walking 3 and striking out 5.
Joshua Roye came on to finish the 13-1 win. Offensively TU would smash 13 hits with Brady finishing the day with 3 RBi, adn Summers adding 2 of his own.
The Night Hawks travel south later this week to Lake Wales for their annual appearance in the Warner Invitational, with games beginning Thursday at 9:15 versus #14 Bellevue.
