Box Score 2 Thomas University (12-17) swept a doubleheader, and the season series, from Brewton Parker in Mt. Vernon, Ga. on Tuesday afternoon. It took 9 innings in the first game to squeak out a 4-3 win, and the Night Hawks came from 7 runs down to win game two 13-8.
In game one, TU jumped to the early lead as
Jalbert Melo doubled and came home on an error by the Barons shortstop to take the 1-0 lead after the first inning. It would stay that way until the bottom of the third, when the Barons loaded the bases with no outs. TU starter
Joshua Roye would minimize the damage, escaping the inning giving up just 1 unearned run.
The Night Hawks answered in the top of the 4th inning, loading the bases on a hit batter, walk, and an error. Melo would drive in
Blake Summers from third with a sacrifice fly to give TU the 2-1 lead. BPC would score two of their own in the 6th inning, using a leadoff walk, a double, and an error to take the 3-2 lead to the 7th.
Thomas would not go quietly, as
Tanner Elsbernd reached second on a misjudged line drive by the centerfielder.
Austin Simmons came on to pinch run, and advanced to third on a groundout.
Yovanny Peguero would tie the game with a single to third, and the teams would head to extra innings.
In the ninth, Simmons led off the inning with a hit by pitch, and advanced to third with no outs on a passed ball and a wild pitch. Peguero would come through again for TU, launching a sacrifice fly to right to score Simmons with the winning run. The bottom of the ninth would not be easy though, as the Barons would load the bases, but
Jacob Moye induced the fielders choice to end the game. Moye picked up the winn, throwing 2 innings, giving up 1 hit, 1 walk, and grabbing 1 strikeout. Melo and
Tanner Long would each have two hits, and Peguero added 2 RBI, including the game winner. The Night Hawks left 14 runners on the basepaths in the game.
Game two started much like the first, as TU jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Melo walked to lead off the inning, and advanced to third on a stolen base and a passed ball before

Jared Corbitt, using a single, an error, and a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1.
The Barons would use a big third inning to take the lead, scoring 7 runs off of 3 TU pitchers to take an 8-1 lead. BPC used 6 hits and 2 hit batters in building the lead that would stand until the top of the 5th inning.
In the fifth, TU exploded for a big inning of their own. The Night hawks had 9 hits, 3 walks, and 2 hit batters as they scored 12 runs in the inning, including 10 before the first out was made. Melo,
