Box Score Thomasville, Ga. – Thomas University Women's Basketball (13-12, 8-7) made history on Tuesday evening, securing a first-ever Sun Conference Tournament game, with a 62-55 defeat of the visiting Webber International Warriors (18-9, 12-3).
WIU jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but the Lady Night Hawks came back to tie the game at five on a three pointer by freshman
Dymon Brown with 7:18 to play in the first period. After a 5-0 Webber run, Brown struck again from behind the arc to make it a 10-8 game. Sophomore
Tess Wright gave TU their first lead of the game, with 3:30 left, when she connected from downtown for an 11-10 Lady Night Hawk advantage. A 4-2 run to close the period, saw Thomas carry the advantage into the second period. Thirteen seconds into the period WIU connected from downtown to tie the game and followed that up with another bucket to take a 17-15 lead. Laura Cherranfant connected for two at the buzzer to send the Lady Night Hawks into the locker room with a 28-26 lead.
Thomas charged out of the locker room and took advantage of turnovers by the Warriors, opening up a ten point, 40-30, advantage when Brown struck from downtown with 4:55 to play in the third. Webber, once again, charged back to make it a 42-39 game at the end of three. WIU opened the fourth with a bucket but TU responded with two consecutive buckets to make it a 46-41. Bra'shey Ali stole the ball and finished a lay-up to make it a 48-41 game. Consecutive scores by Webber made it a 48-45 but Thomas responded with a 10-1 run, which featured a flagrant foul that was converted for two buckets. Leading 54-46, Brown dropped back to back buckets with less than four to play to open up a 58-46 lead. A 9-4 run by Webber closed the gap but the Lady Night Hawks closed out the victory with smart play down the stretch.
Brown led all scorers with 21 points, while Ali contributed a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds).
Thomas will wrap up their conference play on Saturday afternoon, when they face Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. The opponent for TU's first ever TSC Tournament home game on Tuesday evening, at a time that is yet to be determined, will depend upon results from TSC play on Saturday.
