THOMASVILLE, Ga. – On October 11, the Thomas University women's soccer team was 5-8 and in danger of missing out on the conference tournament completely. Now, just one month later, the Lady Night Hawks have won five consecutive matches and are on the verge of a berth in the Sun Conference Final.
In order to keep the remarkable streak going,
Julie Orlowski and company will need to defeat the top-seeded, regular season conference champs in SCAD-Savannah. That proposition might be a tall task for most teams.
Not for the Lady Night Hawks.
The Lady Bees have dropped just one conference match of the season, but it was a 3-2 defeat to a surging TU side on Oct. 28 in Thomasville, Ga.
Thomas will now look to sweep the season series from SCAD, as the team will travel to Savannah, Ga., to compete in the TSC semifinals.
The Night Hawks five-match winning streak has been due, in large part, to a talented senior class. The class has a key player at each position in the team:
Sara-Ann Hartley (keeper),
Alyssa Denton (defender),
Mackenzie Dolan (midfielder), and
Adrianna Johnson (striker).
Dolan and Johnson willed TU past Webber International on Nov. 9, as Dolan netted two goals to level the match at 2-2 before Johnson found the winner. That match also featured some timely clearances by Denton and several impressive saves at point blank range from Hartley.
Facing the regular season conference champions on the road will not be easy, but the Lady Night Hawks' talented senior class is undoubtedly up to the task.
Meadhbh Deeny leads SCAD-Savannah in scoring with nine goals, followed by six apiece from Laerke Michaelsen, Olivia Buechler and Alyssa Rodemsky. Janelle Morgan has five.
Dolan leads the Lady Night Hawks with 12 goals, followed by Johnson and Roivas with seven and six, respectively.
Thomas' quest for a sixth straight win and berth to the TSC Championship game will begin on Nov. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
