Box Score Thomas University (19-16, 14-7), secured their 5th TSC series win of the year with a 15-3 victory over #24 Southeastern University ( 29-12, 12-6). The conference victory was the 14th of the year for the Night Hawks, and secures a spot in the Sun Conference tournament in Ft. Meyers, Fl beginning May 2.
The scoring started early for TU when
Chris Kitlas scored on a 2-out error in the 1st. TU would add 2 more in the 2nd inning when
Brandon Singer tripled in
Jeremy Crosby, and then
Austin Corbitt squeezed Singer home. The Fire would answer in the 3rd with 2 of their own, but TU come back with 3 more in the bottom half of the inning, with tbig blow coming from
Josh Bruijn hitting his 3rd homer of the year, a 2-run shot to left.
The Night Hawks extend the lead to 11-2 with a 5-run fifth inning. TU would score on a bases loaded walk by
Jake Desuyo, a scarifice fly from Kitlas, and a 2 RBI double from
Tyler Palmer.
Justin Hicks would give way to
Evan Morgan on the mound in the 7th inning, leaving with an 8 run cushion. In the bottom half of the 7th, Desuyo would walk to lead off, followed by a Kitlas single. After
Andrew Crane walked with one out,
Trey Griffin would deposit the first pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam, securing the mercy-rule win.
Hicks would pick up his 4th win of the year, going 6 innings and striking out 4. Griffin would finish 3-5, with a season high 4 RBI, a 2B, and a grand slam. Bruijn was 2-3 with 3 RBI, and Kitlas was 3-4 with 2 R.
Thomas University will be back in action on Saturday, April 5 when they host Edward Waters in nonconference action beginning at 1pm. TU will be hosting Military Appreciation Day at Varnedoe Stadium on Saturday, and all militaary veterans and their families are welcome.
