Thomas Baseball Swept

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Thomas Baseball (16-14, 11-6) was swept by Northwood University (17-11-1, 5-6), 6-3 & 2-1, in a Sun Conference double header this afternoon in West Palm Beach, Fla.

Northwood scored tied the game at one in the bottom of the sixth and added two more to take a 3-1 advantage. NU added three more in the seventh to put away the game one victory. A two run home run by junior left fielder Jeremy Crosby (1-3, R, 2 RBI, HR), in the top of the ninth, made it a three run game but that would be the closest that TU would get. Senior starting pitcher Kurtis Gens (2-3) dropped his third game of the year after allowing six runs (three earned) over 6 1/3 innings.

A game two pitchers duel was decided in twelve innings when NU connected on a run scoring single for the walk-off win. Junior starting pitcher Ben Overman gave the Night Hawks yet another quality start, taking a no-decision after tossing seven innings of one run ball. Overman has gone seven innings or more in 6 of his seven starts this season and is carrying a 2.10 era. Senior relief pitcher John Gainey (3-3) took the loss after working 4 2/3 innings while limiting Northwood to only three hits.

The series will wrap up tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
