Baseball (16-12, 11-4) picked up their 3
rd Sun Conference series sweep of year this afternoon, taking a road double header from the University of South Carolina – Beaufort (12-13, 5-7) in Bluffton, SC.
Junior starting pitcher
Ben Overman (5-2) went all the way for a 6-2 game one win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. Senior catcher
Andrew Crane (3-3, 2 RBI, BB, 2B) and junior first baseman
Josh Bruijn (1-4, R, 2 RBI, 2B) each drove in two runs.
Thomas completed the double header and series sweep with a come from behind 7-5 win in game two. USCB opened a 4-0 advantage with four runs in the bottom of the third. TU rallied to tie in the top of the fourth and took the lead with a run in the fifth. The Night Hawks picked up a couple of insurance runs in the seventh before Beaufort made it a two run game in the eighth. Senior relief pitcher
John Gainey clinched the sweep with a four out save, his second of the year. Junior relief pitcher
Justin Hicks (2-2) picked up the win with 3 1/3 scoreless innings. Junior shortstop
Jake Desuyo (3-4, 2 R, 2B) had three hits went 6 for 14 in the series raising his batting average to .385 on the year. Senior right fielder
Trey Griffin (0-3, 2 RBI, SF), junior left fielder
Jeremy Crosby (1-3, R, 2 RBI, BB) and junior third baseman
Damon Jackson (1-3, 2 RBI, BB, SB) each drove in two runs for the Night Hawks.
TU will shift away from TSC play this Wednesday evening when they welcome NCAA D2 Valdosta State University to Varnedoe Stadium for a single game beginning at 5p.m.
