Box Score TU Baseball swept a doubleheader, and the series, from Ave Maria Saturday winning 7-2 and 5-1. The wins keep the Night Hawks(11-8, 8-1) on top of the conference standings, tied with ERAU.
The day started well for TU, as they loaded the bases in the first inning, with
Jake Desuyo scoring on a
Josh Bruijn fielders choice. The Gyrenes would bounce back in the second, taking a 2-1 lead on Hunter McCarthy's second homer of the weekend. But that would be all the Gyrenes could muster in the game, as
Ben Overman went 8 innings, striking out 7, while surrendering 7 hits and 1 walk.
The Night Hawks would strike back in the bottom of the second, when
Austin Corbitt tripled in 2 runs, and later scored on a Desuyo single. TU would add 2 moer in the 5th on
Damon Jackson sacrifice fly and a wild pitch. TU would add the final run in the 7th when
Trey Griffin doubled in
Corey Conway. Desuyo finished the game 3-5 with a run scored and an RBI.
In game two, the Night Hawks started quickly again, when Bruijn singled in
Chris Kitlas who had doubled with one out. TU would strike again in the 4th, after Bruijn tripled to open the inning,
Andrew Crane bunted him home, and Griffin followed with another double. A Crosby sacrifice fly csored the second run of the inning, and a Corbitt single extended the lead to 5-0.
The Gyrenes would score a single run in the 7th, before
John Gainey came in to relieve
Evan Morgan, who finished his day with 6 IP, 10hits and 1 walk.
Justin Hicks would finish the game in the 9th, throwing a scoreless inning.
THe Night Hawks will be back on the field for a doubleheader Monday, March 3, when they take on Siena Heights University. First pitch is scheduled for 1pm.
