Thomas Sweeps Sun Conference Baseball Double Header

Thomas (4-1, 2-0) swept a Sun Conference Baseball double header, 15-6 & 7-1, against Florida Memorial University (1-4, 0-2) this afternoon in Miami Gardens, Fla.

In game one, TU knocked around FMU pitching for 15 runs on 21 hits. Thomas scored three runs in the first inning to lead from start to finish. They went on to score runs in every inning except the fifth and seventh. With the Night Hawks up 6-3 in the top of the 4th, senior catcher Andrew Crane (3-4, 2 RBI) broke the game wide open with a base hit that drove in two runs. Senior starting pitcher Kurtis Gens (2-0) picked up his second win of the year, tossing eight innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits. Six different Night Hawks, including Crane, had multiple hits in the game.

TU was even more dominant in game two as junior starting pitcher Ben Overman (2-0) retired 15 FMU batters in a row, after allowing one earned run on three hits in the first three innings of the game. Overman struck out eight while walking only one. Thomas once again used three first inning runs to get them off to a fast start and tacked on insurance runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings. Senior right fielder Trey Griffin (0-4, R, 2 RBI) and junior first baseman Josh Bruijn (1-5, 2 RBI) each drove in two runs. Sophomore designated hitter Tyler Palmer (4-5, R, RBI, 2B, SB) had four hits in game two, he finished the double header with seven total hits.

The Night Hawks will look to go 3-0 to open TSC play, with a series sweep, tomorrow afternoon at noon.
