THOMASVILLE, Ga. – This upcoming weekend plays host to an action-packed schedule filled with multiple Night Hawk teams traveling throughout the southeast United States for an array of competition.
Â
The Night Hawks begin an active weekend of competition on Friday, Nov. 14 when the 15th-ranked men's soccer team travels to Savannah, Ga., to face Florida Memorial University (12-5, 8-2) in the semi-finals of the Sun Conference tournament. The Green and White (13-2-2, 7-2-1) defeated Southeastern University 3-0 last week in first round action to advance to Friday's contest. The squad is led by sophomore forward
Severin Abt and freshman midfielder
Jonathon McGrath, both with 10 goals. First touch is set for 4:30 p.m.
Â
In the nightcap, head women's basketball coach
Coretta Brown leads her Lady Night Hawks into Brunswick, Ga., where they take on the Mariners of Coastal Georgia (2-0). The Lady Night Hawks (4-1) dropped their first game of the season in heroic fashion to Middle Georgia State College (2-0) this past Tuesday narrowly missing their final shot to force overtime. Senior
Courtney Saunds led the way for the Lady Night Hawks scoring 18 points while bringing down five boards and racking up two assists in 33 minutes of action. Sophomore
Shaunice Bennett scored 12 points in the effort while adding five steals and two rebounds. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
Â
Saturday's competition begins when the men's basketball team place their undefeated streak on the line against the Bears of Truett-McConnell College (2-1). On Veterans' Day, the Night Hawks outlasted a late offensive surge by Middle Georgia to pull out an 83-81 victory leading to a 5-0 record. Senior forward
Alan Love led the way for the Night Hawks with 28 points and five boards in 33 minutes of action while sophomore
Adonai Rogers added 16 points and three rebounds in the effort. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Bear Cave in Cleveland, Ga.
Â
The men's and women's swimming programs wrap up weekend action when they compete at the LaGrange Invitational in LaGrange, Ga. This all day event features top-notched competition from universities throughout the southeast United States. Both squads fared well at the South Georgia Meet in Douglas, Ga., last week with multiple top three performances. Junior
Monica Yoo took third in the 200m freestyle and captured the meet championship in the 1,000 yard freestyle for the Lady Night Hawks. Junior
Madison Osterlund captured the meet title in the 400m IM, 100m butterfly, and 200m butterfly. On the men's side, sophomore
Jake Donovan was a top contender for the men's squad as he took 2nd in the 200m breaststroke and 3rd in the 100m breaststroke.
