THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University men's soccer team held a one-goal advantage early in the second half Saturday afternoon, but Florida National University rallied with two late goals to hand the Night Hawks a 3-2 setback at the TU Soccer Complex.
Thomas opened the scoring in the 14th minute when
Edward Sack found the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Jose Bonilla Ortiz took control and sent it forward to
Ethan Moore, before Moore quickly threaded the needle to Sack for the early 1-0 advantage.
Florida National answered just before halftime, scoring in the 43rd minute to send the teams into the break tied, 1-1.
Thomas regained the lead just 38 seconds into the second half when Moore converted a chance off an assist from Sack to put the Night Hawks back in front, 2-1. The goal was his team-leading fifth of the season, while Sack collected his second point of the afternoon.
The Night Hawks maintained their advantage for more than 30 minutes before Florida National's equalizer in the 77th minute; then completing the comeback in the 84th.
Thomas had opportunities to respond, finishing the match with 10 shots, including six on target. Goalkeeper
Damien Fortin (3-2) logged four saves on 16 shots. Sack and Moore led the Night Hawks offensively, each assisting the other's goal, while
Charlie Foss added a shot on target.
The loss moves Thomas to 3-2, continuing the campaign at home on Monday against the Ave Maria University Gyrenes. In 10 contests, Thomas is 8-1-1 all-time against Ave Maria, including a 7-0 victory in their most recent showing in 2022.
