THOMASVILLE, Ga.—The Thomas Night Hawks fell in a tough contest against the No.10 Campbellsville University Tigers on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
After the first drive for the Night Hawks stalled out, the defense forced a third and short, and Joe Miracle III met the Tigers running back in the backfield for loss of four. The offense came back out on fourth and medium and they forced an incomplete pass and a turnover on downs.
Thomas quickly went to work as Connor Langford found Everett Byrd on second down to move the chains. Then, after a personal foul on the Tigers, the Night Hawks found themselves on the Campbellsville side of the 50.
Langford stepped back and found Aaron Wilson for another quick first down. On third and three, Omari Wilson came up a yard short on the run, forcing a fourth down. Rolling the dice, Thomas gave the ball to Roshaun Dudley, who gained enough yards for the first down.
After a pair of false start penalties halted the momentum, the Night Hawks turned to freshman Garrett Stevenson for a 42-yard field goal. The kick from Stevenson sailed through the uprights, giving the Night Hawks a 3-0 lead late in the first quarter.
Campbellsville quickly responded with three straight touchdown drives to gain the lead. However, there was a bright spot for Thomas before the half.
Starting the drive on their own 23, Langford connected with Byrd again for a first down, then Langford found Jaden Paulk for a 15-yard gain to get into Tiger territory.
Later on, facing a third and five, Langford hit Dudley on a wheel route, getting to the Campbellsville 15. After a pair of negative plays, Tymir Jones ran for seven yards to setup a fourth down.
Thomas decided to roll the dice again, and Langford delivered, hitting Brennan Maye-Jordan who got down to the one-yard line for a first and goal.
Next, facing a third and goal, Langford rolled out to his right and hit Wilson for a touchdown. The first in the freshman's career.
From there, the Tigers went on to take control of the game, as they went on to win the contest.
Langford finished 14-26 for 117 yards and a touchdown. On defense, Mustapha Kromah had a solid game, finishing with 10 tackles and Miracle finished with seven tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack.
The Night Hawks will take the field again on Homecoming as they take on the Andrew Fighting Tigers on Saturday, Sept 26. at 6:00pm.
