THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas fell to unbeaten No.1 St. Thomas Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
St. Thomas scored on special teams, defense and offense to build a 63-0 halftime lead.
The Night Hawks defense found its footing in the second half, played with eight-minute quarters. Late in the third, St. Thomas reached first-and-goal at the Thomas 5 after a 22-yard run by Clayton Cannon. Mustapha Kromah and Dontavious Appleby stopped the next run for no gain, and Joe Miracle III and Oshea McKenzie did the same on second down. After an incompletion, the Bobcats settled for a 23-yard field goal.
Thomas held again in the fourth quarter. A holding penalty wiped out a St. Thomas touchdown pass, and the Night Hawks forced three straight plays without a first down before the Bobcats kicked a 44-yard field goal.
Aj Traylor led the defense with five solo tackles and two tackles for loss, including a 7-yard stop on first-and-goal in the second quarter. Cameron Thomas Sr. sacked St. Thomas quarterback Camden Hartzell for an 11-yard loss, and Terrell Seward added a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry. Miracle, Zayden Coleman and Derick Lewis each made three tackles, and Miracle and Berlon Francis II each broke up a pass.
Ty'Won Walker completed 8 of 15 passes for 48 yards. Gabe Miley produced the Night Hawks' longest play, a 25-yard reception, and Tre Woodson caught a team-high three passes, including a 13-yard grab on third-and-7 in the fourth quarter. Roshaun Dudley added 15 rushing yards and an 8-yard catch.
