THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University Night Hawks fell behind and almost completed the second-half comeback against the Dalton State College Roadrunners on Saturday at the TU Soccer Complex, but ultimately dropped the conference match by a score of 3-2.
Down 3-0 after the first half, Thomas upped the pressure after the halftime intermission. Just two minutes into the latter period,
Will Nye played the ball towards the area to a heavily-defended
Jake Wright. Through three defenders, Wright laced one to the back of the net to put the Night Hawks on the board.
Despite shots on goal from
Edward Sack and a penalty kick from
Ethan Moore, the Roadrunners maintained a two-goal lead.
Later in the period in the 80th minute, Wright again found himself with a chance to score. Another penalty kick for the Night Hawks gave Wright the spotlight; and the English senior kept it to the left on the ground, past the goalkeeper for his second score of the game.Â
Thomas kept up an aggressive approach during the final ten minutes, including shots from
Freddie Pickford and
Jose Bonilla Ortiz, but the Roadrunners shored up their defense to secure the 3-2 victory.
Damien Fortin (3-5) made a pair of saves on the day.Â
Thomas (4-5, 0-3 SSAC) returns to conference action on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 8:30 p.m. at the University of Mobile. Thomas will have a chance to break a decade-long winless streak against the Rams on the road.
