THOMASVILLE, Ga. -Â Thomas University faced Brewton-Parker College in two closely contested games at Armory Field, dropping both game of the twin bill.
Game 1: Thomas 2, Brewton-Parker 3
Brewton-Parker took an early lead in the first inning with an RBI double.
Thomas remained scoreless through the first four innings while Brewton-Parker added another run in the fourth. The score was 2–0 in Brewton-Parker's favor at the end of the fourth.
The fifth inning saw Thomas rally to tie the game.
Cameron Clontz doubled and later scored on a RBI double by
Katie McLeod the first hit of her varsity career.
Amber Hughes, pinch running, scored on a wild pitch, making the score 2–2.
In the sixth inning, Brewton-Parker regained the lead.
Thomas was unable to score in the seventh inning, and Brewton-Parker secured the victory with a final score of 3–2.
Baileigh Herrera delivered a complete game performance for the Night Hawks, pitching 7 innings against Brewton-Parker. Herrera allowed 10 hits and 3 earned runs while walking 4 batters and striking out 1. She threw 103 pitches, with 65 of them being strikes.
Clontz contributed offensively with a double and also scored a run.
Grace Hodges added a double. McLeod drove in a run with her double.
Game 2: Thomas 4, Brewton-Parker 7
In the second game, Thomas took an initial lead over Brewton-Parker, matching their score in the first inning.
Ava Nunez singled and scored on an RBI single by
Alexis Adams, tying the game at 1-1. Thomas then took the lead in the second inning with two runs, as
Natalie Hiles walked and scored on Nunez's double, followed by
Grace Hodges bringing Nunez home with a triple, extending the lead to 3–2. In the third inning, Adams singled and was driven home by a double from
Cameron Clontz, making the score 4–2 in favor of the Night Hawks.
However, Brewton-Parker closed the gap in the sixth inning, scoring two unearned runs due to fielding errors, tying the game at 4–4. In the seventh inning, Brewton-Parker capitalized on Thomas's defensive miscues, scoring three unearned runs on a double, which gave the Barons a 7–4 lead. Thomas was unable to respond in the bottom of the seventh, resulting in the final score of 7–4.
Nunez led the offense with three hits, including a double, and scored two runs. Adams also contributed with three hits and one RBI.
Grace Hodges delivered a triple and drove in one run as part of her two-hit performance. Clontz pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run while striking out one, and also added a double with one RBI.
Looking ahead, Thomas will face Baptist University of Florida in a doubleheader on Friday, April 10, at 2 p.m. at Armory Field in Thomasville, Georgia.
