WEST POINT, Ga. - The Thomas University Night Hawk men's soccer program scored all second-half goals on Thursday night against the Point University Skyhawks en route to a 3-0 road victory.
Ethan Moore secured goals number 12 and 13 on his senior season during the contest, while
Daniel Mauldin tacked on the final tally.
Kameron Kirksey (2-1) made six saves on the night to preserve a clean sheet for
Billy Jeffery.
The Skyhawks kept Thomas to just one first-half shot from
Freddie Pickford in the sixth minute after a corner kick from
Edward Sack, while Point's half-dozen offerings were all turned away before the halftime intermission.
With both teams blanked through the first 45 minutes, the Night Hawks felt added pressure after two Point shots were rattled off within the first five minutes of the second half. In the 51st,
Joseph Crick broke loose and found Moore streaking ahead. The senior connected with netting for his dozenth score on the year to put TU in front.Â
The two programs would trade shots down the stretch, until Thomas took over with the final ten minutes remaining. A Skyhawk foul gave Moore a chance to lace a penalty kick home in the 82nd minute - and goal number 13 for the Englishman. Catching Point off-guard, the Night Hawks kept their talons on the pedal with another score in the same frame, courtesy of a boot from Mauldin. The third of the sophomore's year vaulted Thomas to a 3-0 lead.Â
Kirksey collected two final saves in the closing moments of the match to finish off the Night Hawks' third shutout of the season.
Thomas (7-10, 3-7 SSAC) is currently 9th in the conference, with the regular season set to end on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3:00 p.m. on the road at Andrew College. The Night Hawks sit behind Blue Mountain Christian University (8th place, 3-3-3) in the standings, with Jeffery's boys needing the Toppers to not earn a point in their final two matches against Life University and Dalton State College. Thomas owns the head-to-head matchup against BMCU with a 4-1 win earlier this year.Â
