DECATUR, Ala. – A promising start gave way to missed opportunities as the Thomas Night Hawks fell to Brewton-Parker Lady Barons on Thursday afternoon at the SSAC Softball Tournament.
The Lady Barons struck first, plating three runs in the top of the first inning. The Night Hawks responded in the bottom half as Alexis Adams brought a run home on a groundout, while Sierra Ussery delivered a key two-out RBI single to bring the deficit down to one
From the second inning onward, the pace slowed down as both pitchers went to work, playing four innings of shutout ball until Brewton-Parker put up three more runs off of Thomas starter Baileigh Herrera in the top of the sixth. Herrera pitched a complete game, allowing 12 hits and six runs—three earned—while striking out one over seven innings.
Despite solid early contact and six total hits—including multi-hit games from Buncy and Ussery—Thomas was unable to manufacture more offense. The Night Hawks put runners aboard in the second and third but grounded into double plays that ended both threats.
The Barons' Natalie O'Neal went the distance in the circle, scattering six hits over seven innings while holding Thomas scoreless after the first frame.
Thomas committed three errors, including one in the sixth that contributed to the Brewton rally. The loss has the Night Hawks facing elimination as they face the No. 5 Seed Mobile on Friday, May 2nd at 10:00am EST / 9:00am CST.
