Box Score DECATUR, Ala. – A game-tying home run provided a spark, but ultimately The Thomas Night Hawks fell to the Mobile Lady Rams at SSAC Tournament held at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex on Friday morning.
The Night Hawks fell behind early as Mobile pushed across a run in the third and added two more in the fifth. Then Ansley Eason's second home run of the season to right center tied the game for Thomas but the Rams' pitching silenced the Night Hawks the rest of the way.
Sierra Ussery (11-9) battled through five innings, allowing 10 hits and three earned runs. Emylee Mountin came on in relief and tossed 1.1 innings only allowing three hits and a scoreless inning before Baileigh Hererra took the circle to limit further damage and give Thomas a chance to rally.
Thomas tallied just four hits, with contributions from Eason, Kristin Steller, Annalise Buncy, and Ava Nunez. Despite putting runners aboard in multiple innings, the Night Hawks were stifled by two momentum-killing double plays and stranded five runners.
Defensively, Thomas turned in a clean game with no errors and only surrendered three runs on 14 hits.
The loss eliminates the Night Hawks from the SSAC tournament and now they await to see if they earned an at-large bid into the NAIA Softball Tournament.
