BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Night Hawks ended their weekend road trip against the Webber International Warriors on Sunday afternoon.
Game one started out quick as Thomas found themselves down one early as Webber scored a quick run in the bottom of the first. The Night Hawks had runners in scoring position with one out in the third, but could not capitalize on the opportunity. However, in the fifth,
Ava Nunez drew a walk and Kristin Stellar got a bunt single to move Nunez into scoring position.
Lauren Hicks drew a second walk to load the bases with one out. Then
Baileigh Herrera came in to hit and knocked a single into left to score Nunez and tie the game. The scoring ended there for Thomas as the next two batters went down on fly outs.Â
In the bottom of the sixth the Warriors manged to bring home a run to regain the lead and the Night Hawks failed to respond as the first game went to Webber.
Thomas came out in the second game firing as Stellar got into scoring position off a walk and a sacrifice bunt from Hicks, which brought up
Alexis Adams. The freshman knocked one into center to score Stellar, putting the Night Hawks up one early. The offense for both teams slowed down until the third when the Warriors tied the game at one. An inning later and Webber took the lead on a sacrifice fly. Then the bats got hot for the Night Hawks as Hicks drew a walk and
Sierra Ussery hit a single through the left to get the tying run into scoring position. Adams did a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners, and
Ansley Eason got one by the shortstop to score Hicks and tie the game. After Annaelise Buncy hit a single past the third baseman to load the bases,
Grace Hodges ripped one down the line to bring home two more runners to retake the lead.
From there the defense held strong and did not allow a hit for three straight innings to end the game and secure the split for the Night Hawks.Â
Thomas will return to the diamond at home on Thursday, February 20th at 3:00 PM for a rematch against No. 22 Southeastern.
