THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas Night Hawks fell just shy against the Coastal Georgia Mariners Wednesday evening at the TU Gymnasium.
An
Aaliyah Ringold layup with 8:28 left to go in the second quarter sparked an 8-0 run to take a one point lead with 5:24 left to go in the half. After two ties following the previous lead change a pair of made free throws from
LaTarius Montgomery gave the Night Hawks advantage.
Kennedy Collins converted a layup with 3:36 left to bring the advantage to four. Collins made a triple off of a pass from Montgomery to bring the score 31-26 with 2:01 remaining in the half. Zy'Kiera King made a layup to preserve the Thomas advantage.
Tieraney Bolton rounded out the Night Hawks offense for the half with a made free throw and brought the score to 34-29.
The Night Hawks held strong kept the score even going into the fourth quarter.
Nandi Ramessar made a tough turnaround jumper from a lob pass from Bolton to tie the game 62 all for the final tie of the game. The Night Hawks were not able to answer to the Mariners series of free throws and came up just short.
Montgomery led the team with 19 points, a career high 26 rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and three assists. Montgomery currently leads the NAIA in total rebounds as well as defensive rebounds. She is fourth in the NAIA in rebounds per game and ninth in the league with 11 blocks on the season. This marks her seventh double digit rebound performance and her fifth double-double of the season.
Collins added in 14 points, three rebounds and a block. King chipped in 12 points six rebounds an assist and two steals.
Destiny Hill lead the team in assists with six and added in four steals and eight rebounds.
The Night Hawks return to action next Wednesday at 5:30 as they travel to face Georgia Gwinett for their first ever matchup.
