Hattiesburg, MS | The Thomas University Softball Team displayed a great effort on offense, but ultimately suffered two losses at the hands of #18 William Carey University on Monday afternoon.
Game One
The Crusaders would use their first opportunity at the dish to plate a single run and gain an early advantage over the Night Hawks. However, Elizabeth Soto would provide a response in the following inning. Her RBI single would plate Adreanna Killingsworth, who doubled, and even the score at one a piece.
In the bottom of the third inning, the Crusaders would plate two additional runs on three hits and one Night Hawk error. In their next opportunity at the dish, they would plate another run on two hits and one Night Hawk error. Following the inning, William Carey would lead the Night Hawks 4-1.
In the top of the sixth inning, Killingsworth would supply an RBI ground out that would allow Grace Hodges, who singled, to cross the plate. However, this would be the last run produced by either team in the contest, and the Night Hawks would drop game one, 4-2.
In the contest, the Night Hawks would out-hit the Crusaders 8-7. Seven different Night Hawks would record a hit, and Elizabeth Soto would collect two hits.
Game Two
In the bottom of the first inning, the Crusaders would use three hits to produce two early runs.
The Night Hawks would then come storming back to even the score. In the top of the third inning, an AnnMarie McAfee RBI single to left field would plate Averie Sheppard, who singled. Ava Nunez would follow McAfee's single with an RBI single of her own. Nunez's single to right field would allow Grace Hodges, who reached via an error, to cross the plate.
In the bottom of the third, William Carey would provide a large response. The Crusaders would produce two runs on two hits to regain possession of a two-run lead, 4-2.
In the top of the fifth inning, Ava Nunez would send a line drive into right center field to collect her second RBI of the contest. Nunez's double would plate Lauren Hicks, who pinch ran for McAfee, and would cut the deficit to one-run, 3-4. However, the Night Hawks would not capitalize on any additional scoring opportunities. The Crusaders would take game two, 4-3.
The Night Hawks would out-hit the Crusaders 7-5 in game two. Five different Night Hawks would record a hit in the contest. Ava Nunez and AnnMarie McAfee would each collect two hits, and Nunez would supply Thomas with two RBIs.
Next Up
The Night Hawks will be back in action on April 19th to take on the Knights of #21 Middle Georgia State University at Armory Field. The SSAC matchup will feature a doubleheader beginning at 1 PM.
