Lawrenceville, GA | The Thomas University Softball Team faced off against the Grizzlies of #9 Georgia Gwinnett College on Saturday afternoon.
Game One
Game one would feature a pitcher's duel. Amber Griffin would hold the ninth-ranked Grizzlies scoreless through five complete innings.
A three hit, two run bottom of the sixth inning would give the Grizzlies the advantage.
Thomas would not capitalize in their final opportunity at the dish. The Grizzlies would take the first contest, 2-0.
Game Two
Thomas would flip the script in game two. In the top of the second inning, the Night Hawks would produce four runs on three hits. This dominant inning would be highlighted by a Hailie Stewart RBI single to right field, and an Averie Sheppard three RBI inside-the-park homerun.
The Night Hawks would plate two additional runs on two hits in the following inning. AnnMarie McAfee would provide the first run on a single to right field. Lauren Hicks would score on a Maggie Colgan stolen base. Following the inning, the Night Hawks would lead the Grizzlies 6-0.
In the fourth inning, the Night Hawks would plate an additional run courtesy of a Kennedy Hardy RBI single.
In the fifth, Thomas would plate three insurance runs on three hits. In the inning, Hailie Stewart and Adreanna Killingsworth would each produce an RBI, and Stewart would cross the plate courtesy of a Grizzly throwing error.
The Night Hawks would take game two in run-rule fashion, 10-0.
Sierra Ussery would be credited with the win for the Night Hawks. In four innings pitched, Ussery allowed just four hits and no earned runs. In relief, Dale Elmore allowed zero hits in one complete inning of work.
Next Up
The Night Hawks will be back in action on April 15th to take on the Crusaders of William Carey University in SSAC doubleheader action. First pitch is set for 2 PM in Hattiesburg, MS.
