MOUNT VERNON, GA | The Night Hawks (14-8, 4-6 SSAC) dropped the series opener against the Barons from Brewton-Parker (14-10, 6-4 SSAC) on Thursday. The series was moved up a day, due to anticipated weather in Georgia this weekend.
Thomas would strike first during their first at-bat.
Kason Buie would lead off with a single.
Turner Maddox would follow with a double, sending Buie to 3rd base. J.T. Whatley would pick up the RBI, on a single, to open the scoring in the contest.
After giving up two runs in the bottom of the inning, Thomas would quickly tie the game during the top of the 2nd inning.
Max Pickert would lead off the inning with a double.
Mike Sowers would single to right-field, driving in Pickert, to tie the score at 2-2.
The Barons would scored three runs in the 3rd inning, and again in the 4th inning, to extend their lead to 8-2, before Thomas could plate another run. Pickert would hit a one-out double, and Sowers would single him home. After an
Easton Willis single and error, on the play, advanced Sowers to 3rd base,
Brayden Lawhon would hit a sacrifice fly to right-field to bring home sowers.
The Night Hawks would give up another run in the 5th inning. Thomas would cut into the deficit, in the top of the 6th inning, with the assistance of a Maddox walk and a
JT Whatley homerun, making the score 9-6, in favor of the Barons. Brewton-Parker would add two additional runs to their total in the bottom of the 6th inning, to increase the score to 11-6.
In the top of the 7th, Thomas would trim the Barons lead by two runs. Willis would be hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Lawhorn would follow with a walk. Buie would advance Willis to 3rd base, on a flyout to right-field. Maddox would collect the RBI with a single.
Cameron Rosario, who pinch-ran for Lawhorn, would score on a passed ball while
Bryce Bitting was at bat. The Night Hawks would add another run in the 8th inning. Pickert, who walked with one out, would score on a Sowers single to center-field. Thomas would give up a run in the bottom of the 8th inning, to make the final score 12-9, in favor of Brewton-Parker.
Turner Maddox,
JT Whatley, and
Mike Sowers would each collect three hits in the contest. Whatley and Sowers would have three RBIs, each.
