Night Hawks Drop Two in Gulf Shores Invitational

Gulf Shores, AL | The Thomas University Softball Team made their debut in the Gulf Shores Invitational Tournament on Saturday evening. In their first day of play, the Night Hawks faced two teams that have been recognized on the NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 rankings, (RV)Campbellsville and #20 Freed-Hardeman. 

 

Game One vs. (RV)Campbellsville

The Night Hawks would strike first in the contest courtesy of a Grace Hodges RBI single in the bottom of the first inning that would plate one run. 

 

The Tigers would then respond in the bottom of the third inning, by plating two runs on two hits.

 

Trailing 2-1, Hodges would provide the spark once again for the Night Hawks. In the bottom of the third inning, Hodges would produce a leadoff double and later cross the plate via a ground out.

 

However, in the following inning, the Tigers would plate three additional runs on four hits to regain possession on the lead, 5-2. Then, in the top of the fifth inning, they would produce five more runs to further their advantage, 10-2.

 

The Night Hawks would fail to produce another run and would fall to the Tigers,10-2, in five innings of play. 

 

Game Two vs. #20 Freed-Hardeman

The contest would remain scoreless until the bottom of the second inning when the Lions would produce one run via one hit and one error.

 

Later, in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lions would add an additional run to further their advantage, 2-0. 

 

In the following inning, the Lions would capitalize on two hits, by plating two more runs. 

 

The Night Hawks would not recover, and would fall to #20 Freed-Hardeman, 4-0. 

 

Next Up

The Night Hawks will return to action and continue play in the Gulf Shores Invitational Tournament tomorrow, March, 3rd. They will face Bethel University at 12:15 PM, and William Woods University at 4 PM. All games will be played at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex in Gulf Shores, AL.
