Thomas Takes Finale Against Point

WEST POINT, GA  |  The Night Hawks went into Sunday's contest, against the Point, looking to salvage a victory versus the Skyhawks, and they accomplished their mission, by a score of 10-5.

Thomas got going early, with Turner Maddox collecting a single, up the middle, to lead off the game.  After a Riley Borgert single advanced Maddox to 3rd base, Max Pickert hit a sacrifice fly to center field, to collect the RBI and give the Night Hawks an early, 1-0, advantage.

The lead was short-lived.  A Point home run, to lead off the bottom of the inning, quickly tied the game at 1-1.

The score would remain tied at one, until the top of the 5th inning.  Brayden Lawhon would get a one-out single, up the middle.  Hunter Kern would follow with a single to left field, moving Lawhorn to 2nd base.  Maddox would also single to left field, bring home Lawhorn, and sending Kern to 3rd base.  After a pitching change, Kern would score on a fielder's choice, when the fielder was unable to make the play at 3rd base, thus keeping the loading the bases.  A walk to JT Whatley would send home another run.  Pinch hitter Matthew Williams would drive in two runs with a single to left field.  The Night Hawks would own a 6-1 advantage after the inning.

Thomas would tack on four, additional, important runs in the top of the 7th inning.  JT Whatley's two-run homer would bring in Pickert with him.  One out later, Mike Sowers would send antoher pitch, out of the yard, to left field.  Lawhorn would walk, and ultimately score on Borgert's single, to increase the Thomas lead to 10-1.

Point would put together a rally to score four runs in the bottom of the 9th inning, to make the game interesting.  Thomas was able to walk away with the victory, 10-5.

Riley Borget would go 4/6 at the plate, scoring one run, and driving in another one.  Turner Maddox and Hunter Kern would each collect three hits on the day.  JT Whatley would drive in three Night Hawks.  Tanner Reed would strike out five and allow zero walks, to pick up his second victory of the week, in 3.1 innings of relief work.
