Night Hawks Can’t Hold Off Eagles

Thomasville, GA- The Thomas University Women's Basketball Team hosted the Eagles of Faulkner University on Tuesday night. 

In the first quarter, the Night Hawks would total six points within the first four minutes of play, but would fail to secure another basket for the remainder of the quarter. Defensively, they would collect five steals in the quarter. The Eagles would shoot a game high from the field (56%), and beyond the arc (67%), in the first quarter. The Eagles would take a 26-6 lead after one period of action.

In the second period, Thomas' intensity on defense would force the Eagles to settle for contested shots. The Night Hawks would hold Faulkner to just 9 points, and 13% accuracy from the field. Thomas would shoot 57% from behind the arc and 36% from the field, to produce 15 points. The Night Hawks would cut the deficit to 14 points, 21-35, to head into the break.

Upon their return from the break, Thomas would produce their highest scoring quarter of the contest (20 points). In the period, the Night Hawks would shoot 57% from three and 100% from the free throw line. Faulkner would be held to just 13 points and 31% from the field.

To begin the final quarter of play, the Night Hawks would capitalize on a quick basket that would cut the deficit to five points. However, with six minutes remaining in regulation, the Eagles would begin a run of their own to lead the Night Hawks by 15 points with just two minutes remaining in the contest. Following this run, the Night Hawks would not recover. Faulkner would depart the Rose City with a 67-52 victory. 

Ryann Woodley would score 14 points. Kennedy Collins would record 12 points and grab 7 rebounds. Ta'Nija Watson scored 9 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and picked up 2 steals. Dejah Wilson recorded 7 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals. Tara Llorente recorded a game high 4 steals. 

NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will be back in action on February, 17th for Senior Night as they take on Brewton-Parker College. Tip-off is set for 12:00 PM in The Nest (TU Gymnasium).
