Night Hawks Fall to #22 Southeastern

Night Hawks Fall to #22 Southeastern

Lakeland, FL | The Thomas University Softball Team (2-4, 0-0 SSAC) faced of against the #22 Southeastern Fire (5-1, 0-0 SUN) in a series doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

 

Game One

Game one of the series would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Fire would produce one run in the inning via 3 hits. In the following inning, the Fire would plate an additional run courtesy of a lead-off solo homerun. The Night Hawks would trail, 2-0. 

 

A Kennedy Hardy single in the top of the 4th inning, would prove to provide the response that the Night Hawks needed. Lauren Hicks, who pinch ran for Hardy, would then cross the plate via an Adreanna Killingsworth double. Killingsworth's RBI would cut the deficit to one run, 2-1. However, the Fire would then produce a run of their own in the following inning.

 

In the bottom of the 5th inning, Southeastern would produce 2 runs on 3 hits to increase their lead to 5-1.

 

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the 7th, when the Night Hawks would try to mount a comeback. Grace Hodges and Averie Sheppard would each single to kickstart the inning. Ansley Eason would then reach on a fielder's choice, and a Jaelynn Vialpando 2 RBI single would later score both Eason and Sheppard. However, no more runs would be produced, and the Night Hawks would fall, 3-5.

 

Game Two

The second game in the series would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 3rd inning, when the Fire would plate 2 runs on 3 hits. The Night Hawks would provide a response in the top of the 4th inning, though. Kristen Stellar would provide the initial spark by producing a lead-off double. Stellar would then score on a Jaelynn Vialpando ground out.

 

Heading into the bottom of the 4th inning, the Night Hawks would trail 2-1. The Fire would produce a run in this inning, and an additional run in the bottom of the 6th inning, to increase the deficit to 4-1.

 

The Night Hawks would not recover, and would drop the contest, 1-4. 

 

Next Up

The Night Hawks will back in action on February, 11th to take on Webber University in a doubleheader. Game one will begin at 1:00 PM, and game two will follow at 3:00PM in Babson Park, FL.
