Night Hawks Drop Series at Webber

Night Hawks Drop Series at Webber

Babson Park, FL | The Thomas University Softball Team (2-6, 0-0 SSAC) took on the Warriors of Webber International University (2-0, 0-0 SUN) in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

Game One

The first game in the series would remain scoreless until the bottom of the 4th inning.

In the top of the 3rd inning, the Night Hawks would see an opportunity to strike first but would ultimately leave two base runners stranded. The Warriors would soon capitalize on this missed opportunity in the bottom of the 4th inning. They would plate four runs on three hits and one error, to lead the Night Hawks 4-0.

In the following inning, the Night Hawks would try to respond with two hits of their own and a bases loaded situation, but the Warriors would escape the threat and leave all three Night Hawks on base.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the 6th inning, when the Warriors would plate two additional runs on two hits and one error.

The Night Hawks would trail 6-0 to enter the top of the 7th inning and would not be able to overcome the deficit. The Warriors would take game one, 6-0.

Five different Night Hawks would record a hit in the contest.

Game Two

The Warriors would strike first and take an early lead in the second contest. In the bottom of the 1st inning, they would take advantage of one hit and two Night Hawk errors to plate three runs.

With the Night Hawks trailing 3-0 heading into the top of the 2nd  inning, Kennedy Hardy would take matters into her own hands. Hardy would send a blast over the left field fence to give the Night Hawks a sign of life and cut the deficit to just two runs, 1-3.

The score would remain the same until the top of the 4th inning, when Ansley Eason would kickstart the inning with a single and cross the plate via a Kennedy Hardy RBI single.

The Night Hawks would then make a statement in the top of the 6th inning. AnnMarie McAfee would reach base courtesy of an error. Ashton Lewis would then follow with a double to place two Night Hawks in scoring position. Hailie Stewart would then single to plate one run and even the score, 3-3. Averie Sheppard would then produce a 2 RBI triple to give the Night Hawks their first lead of the contest, 5-3.

However, the Warriors would respond in a big way in the following inning. They would produce seven runs on five hits and two errors to regain possession of the lead, 5-10.

Despite two hits in the top of the 7th inning, the Night Hawks would not be able to overcome the five-run deficit built in the previous inning. The Warriors would escape with the victory, 10-5.

In the contest, the Night Hawks would out hit the Warriors 11-8. Seven different Night Hawks would record at least one hit, while three of those Night Hawks would record a multi-hit game.
