THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas held strong in the first half, but struggled in the second in a tough loss against the No.5 St. Thomas Bobcats on Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
After being knocked in the mouth on the opening drive of the game, The Night Hawks began their drive with a couple short runs and a 14 yard rush from
Charles Britt set up the offense in plus territory quickly. Britt soon found
Demari Foster on a quick pass to get to the Bobcats' 39. Following another scramble, Britt found
Trey Woodson for a 19 yard touchdown to tie the game at seven. After the defense forced a St. Thomas punt, the Night Hawks returned to the field looking to take the lead. On a third and long, Britt scrambled for 50 yards to the Bobcat 29 but off-setting penalties erased the huge gain and stopped the Thomas drive in their tracks.
Â
St. Thomas got the ball back and drove down the field for a touchdown to break the tie going into the second quarter. Another unsuccessful Night Hawk drive left the team looking for a big defensive stop.
Jabari Williams answered the call as he picked off a Bobcat pass to give Thomas the ball back to take back the lead. Unfortunately, the drive failed to gain any traction and the ensuing punt was blocked and then recovered for a touchdown to put the Night Hawks down two scores. From there, Thomas struggled to get anything going as St. Thomas began an offensive flurry to end the half.
Â
The Night Hawks found some life in the third when Britt found Woodson again to get to the Bobcat red zone. Britt finished up the drive on strike to
Jaheim James for touchdown which became the final score for Thomas in the end.
Â
Britt finished 18 of 31 for 202 and two scores as well as 36 yards on the ground. Woodson finished with three catches for 88 yards and a touchdown while, A.J. Traylor finished with three total tackles and an interception.
