Thomasville, Ga- The Thomas University women's basketball team (4-12, 2-6 SSAC) hosted the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University (3-12, 0-7 SSAC) on Saturday afternoon.
To begin the first quarter, Thomas would strike first to take an early 9-0 lead. Both teams would then trade baskets and get a couple defensive stops. In the last four minutes of the first period, the Toppers would go on a 14-0 run to end the first period of play with a 19-16 lead.
The Night Hawks would begin the second quarter with a quick three pointer, followed by a 5-0 run. Blue Mountain would answer by connecting on a three pointer of their own paired with a couple defensive stops. Going into the half, Thomas would lead 31-27.
In the third quarter, both teams would battle and produce similar offensive efforts. Thomas would ultimately win the quarter, 15-14. In the fourth period, the Night Hawks would shoot their game high from the field (46%), to score 17 points in the quarter. The Night Hawks' defense would hold the Toppers to 16 points in the quarter and allow the Night Hawks to secure the victory, 63-57.
Jasmyn Studamire would record a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while also adding 1 block and 1 steal. Ryann Woodley would score 12 points. Ta'Nija Watson recorded 10 points, 6 assists, and 4 rebounds. Destiny Hill recorded 8 points and 4 rebounds. Tara Llorente added 6 points and 7 rebounds.
NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will take on Faulkner University on January 9th at the TU Gymnasium. Tip off is set for 6:30 PM.
