Night Hawks Pull Upset in the Rose City

Defeat University of Mobile, 64-59

Thomasville, GA | The Thomas University women's basketball team (5-15, 3-9 SSAC) knocked off the second place team in the Southern States Athletic Conference, the University of Mobile (17-5, 9-4 SSAC), on Wednesday evening.
 
In the first five minutes of play, the Rams would go on a quick 6-0 run. Destiny Hill would then power a 5-0 Thomas run in response. Hill would capitalize on a three-point play just under the five minute mark, then sink a jumper on the following possession to cut the deficit to one. At the end of the first quarter of play, the Night Hawks would trail the Rams, 10-12.
 
In their first possession of the second quarter, the Night Hawks would even the score, 12-12, courtesy of a Kennedy Collins layup that would begin a 13-2 Thomas run. The Night Hawks would take their first lead of the contest in the eighth minute of the period following a Destiny Hill layup. Thomas would lead by as much as nine points in the second period, and would enter the break with a 20-26 lead over the Rams.
 
Coming out of the break, the Rams would go on a quick 4-0 run to begin the second half of play. Then, just under the eight minute mark, the Rams would even the score at 29 points a piece. A minute later, Jade Studamire would sink a three pointer to regain the lead, 32-29. Studamire's three would provide a spark for the Thomas offense. The Night Hawks would then go on a 15-1 run to lead the Rams 44-30 with a minute remaining in the third period. 
 
Entering the final period of play, the Night Hawks would lead 49-32. The Rams would try to mount a comeback by cutting the deficit to one in the final minute, but would ultimately be denied. Ta'Nija Watson and Destiny Hill would help secure a hard fought victory, 59-64, from the charity stripe.
 
Destiny Hill would lead all Night Hawks with 18 points. Kennedy Collins would shoot 75% from behind the arc to supply 13 points. Jade Studamire would add 10 points. Ryann Woodley would lead the Night Hawks in rebounds by grabbing 12. 
 
NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will be back in action on January, 27th to take on another SSAC opponent, William Carey University. Tip-off is set for 12 PM in the TU Gymnasium.
