Night Hawks Fall to the Wolf Pack

Night Hawks Fall to the Wolf Pack

New Orleans, LA - The Thomas University women's basketball team (4-15, 2-9 SSAC) dropped a contest against Loyola University (16-1, 10-0 SSAC) on Saturday afternoon.

In the first quarter of play, the Night Hawks would quickly find themselves trailing by five points following an early 5-0 Wolf Pack run. The Night Hawks would then respond with a 11-0 run of their own, and take their first lead of the contest, 7-5, following a Jade Studamire jumper. The Wolf Pack would then produce a 10-0 run and capitalize on several scoring opportunities from the charity stripe to end the first quarter of action with a 20-17 lead over the Night Hawks. The second quarter would greatly favor the Wolf Pack. A Destiny Hill jumper at the nine minute mark would cut the deficit to one point, 19-20. However, the Night Hawks would only produce one more additional point for the remainder of the quarter. Loyola would outscore the Night Hawks 20-3 in the second period, and head into the break holding a 20-40 lead over Thomas.

After the break, Ryann Woodley and Dejah Wilson would try to provide the Night Hawks with a sign of life. However, the Wolf Pack would outscore the Night Hawks, 27-24, in the third quarter to take a 67-34 lead to head into the final quarter of play. In the fourth period, the Night Hawk defense would hold the Wolf Pack to their lowest scoring quarter. However, Loyola would outscore the Night Hawks by one point, 15-16, and secure the victory, 49-83.

Dejah Wilson would record a double-double and shot 60% from behind the arc to lead all Night Hawks with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 steals. Ryann Woodley would follow closely behind with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Ta'Nija Watson would lead the Night Hawks in assists with 4.

NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will return to action on January, 24th to take on the University of Mobile in a SSAC conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM in the TU Gymnasium.
