Mount Vernon, GA - The Thomas University women's basketball team (4-14, 2-8 SSAC) traveled to take on Brewton-Parker College (13-5, 5-3 SSAC) on Saturday afternoon.
The Night Hawks would begin play with a shortage of offensive production. In the first six minutes of the first quarter, Thomas would only produce two points. As a result, the Barons would jump out to an early 16-2 lead. The Night Hawks would cut this deficit to ten, courtesy of a Ta'Nija Watson jumper in the final seconds of the first period.
In the second quarter of action, Kennedy Collins would provide life to the Thomas offense. Collins would drain a trio of three pointers to assist Thomas in shooting 60% from behind the arc in the second quarter. The Night Hawks would produce 17 total points in the quarter, but would be outscored by Brewton-Parker, who would score 21. Thomas would trail the Barons, 37-23, heading into the break.
After the break, both teams seemed to be plagued by a scoring drought. Thomas would see one basket fall during the first three minutes of play. From there, the Night Hawks would produce a 6-0 run, courtesy of a trio of Ryann Woodley jumpers. Despite Woodley's effort, Thomas would enter the final period of play trailing the Barons by 15.
In the final period of play, Thomas would gradually cut into the Baron's lead. With one minute remaining in regulation, a Dejah Wilson layup would decrease the deficit to seven. However, following Wilson's layup the Barons would capitalize on several scoring opportunities from the charity stripe to prevent a Thomas comeback. The Night Hawks would fall to the Barons, 56-67.
Ryann Woodley recorded 16 points and 5 rebounds. Dejah Wilson recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds. Kennedy Collins knocked down 3 three pointers resulting in 9 points. Destiny Hill recorded 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
NEXT UP: The Night Hawks will travel to New Orleans, LA to take on Loyola University on January, 20th. Tip off is set for 1 PM.
