Night Hawks Fall Short in Matchup Against Roadrunners

THOMASVILLE, GA- The Thomas University Men's Soccer team (3-3-2, 0-2-1) hosted the 2nd ranked Dalton State College (6-0-3, 3-0-1) in a SSAC match-up Thursday evening.

Thomas entered the game after earning votes to be placed in the NAIA Top 25 rankings.

The Night Hawk's last three opponents were Top 25 ranked teams, and the matchup today was no different.

With this being the SSAC Game of The Week, tensions were high. In the first half, both teams' defenses remained solid, keeping both teams scoreless. With that, Thomas tallied eighteen fouls compared to the Roadrunners' nine. Dalton State also led the 1st period with four shots to Thomas' one.

The Night Hawks would keep battling Dalton State all evening. However, in the 68th minute, the Roadrunners would capitalize on a penalty kick to take a 1-0 lead. Dalton State would strike again in the 82nd minute and increase their lead to 2-0.  The Night Hawks would try to make a comeback but a late miscue would allow Dalton State to tack on another goal and end the game 3-0.

The Night Hawks finished the day with a total of two shots. The Roadrunners recorded fifteen total shots with eight on goal and five corner kicks. Thomas' Jorge Gonzalez would record five saves.

Thomas Athletic Director Kurt Stringfellow stated, "I am proud of the effort today shown by the Men's team and Coach Billy Jeffries."

NEXT UP: The Night Hawks are set to travel to Marietta, GA to play Life University September 30th. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
