Thomas falls to #6 Bethel on the Road

McKenzie, TN |  The Thomas University Night Hawks (1-2, 0-0 Sun) took their longest road trip of the season to take on the #6 Bethel Wildcats (4-0, 1-0 MSC) and fell 48-14.  

Bethel was able to take take the opening kickoff into Thomas territory and score on their first play from scrimmage to take a 7-0 lead.  Bethel held Thomas to a tree-and-out on the Night Hawks' first possession, forcing a punt, which was taken to the house for the Wildcats second score. After another three-and-out, by the Night Hawks, Bethel added another touchdown on five plays to increase their lead to 20-0.

Thomas was finally able to break onto the scoreboard in the first quarter with two big plays.  Chris Carter would complete a 23-yard pass to James Amaker.  A 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct was tacked on to the end of the run.  Jaylen White would take the next play to pay-dirt, rushing for 48 yards, to cut the score to 20-7 (Braxton Crawford PAT).

Unfortunately, the Wildcats would answer with another touchdown to close out the quarter with a 27-7 lead. The 2nd quarter was  a bit of a quieter by both teams, but Bethel was able to add another touchdown, to increase their halftime lead to 34-7 lead into halftime.  Bethel would go on to add another touchdown in the 3rd quarter to lengthen their lead to 41-7.  

After a touchdown to open the 4th quarter by the Wildcats, the Night Hawks would close out the scoring for both teams.  Thomas would cover 67 yards in eight plays.  Quarterback Charles Britt would lead this drive, accounting for 53 of the 67 yards, with his arm or his legs.  Britt would complete a 12-yard pass to Julian Harper and a 17-yard pass to Brandon Denmark.  Britt would rush for 20 yards on the drive fot he score (Braxton Crawford PAT).

Thomas was only able to muster 203 yards of total offense while giving up over 500 yards.  Jaylen White led the rushing with 44 yards.  Raheim McBride becomes the first Night Hawks to record double-digits in takes with a total of 10 (seven solo).  

The Night Hawks open up Sun Conference play next Saturday, as they travel to West Palm Beach, FL to face the #8 Keiser Seahawks.  Keiser will enter the contest off of a bye week.  They were defeated by Valdosta State in their last game on September 16, 49-25.  Kickoff is scheduled for 6PM.
