Night Hawks Fall to #7 Keiser

Game starts in September and finishes in October

In a game that was started in September, but concluded in October, due to two lightning delays, Thomas lost to #7 Keiser, 44-12.  The first lightning delay occurred, literally, seconds before the kickoff. Teams and fans were evacuated from the stadium, due to safety.  The delay lasted over two hours.  After receiving the clear to retake the field, a second lightning delay occurred midway during the abbreviated warm-up period.  The second delay lasted approximately 75 minutes.  Finally, the game that was scheduled to begin at 6PM ET finally began at approximately 9:45PM ET.

Once the action began, it didn't take Keiser long to score as the Seahawks tallied two touchdowns in the 1st quarter.  In the 2nd quarter, the Thomas special teams made the first big play.  Brandon Denmark recoved a fumbled punt by Keiser on the Seahawks 28-yardline, putting Thomas in scoring position.  On a 4th-and-16, Chris Carter hit Tremal Hall for a 34-yard touchdown pass to put the Night Hawks on the scoreboard.  The momenteum was short-lived, as Braxton Crawford's PAT was blocked and returned for two points by Keiser, leaving the score 16-6 in favor of KU.

The Thomas special teams scored the second touchdown for the Night Hawks.  After the defense did an outstanding job pinning the Seahawks in their own territory, forcing a punt, Coach Orlando Mitjans called a timeout.  The result was a punt that was blocked by by Raheim McBride.  McBride picked up the loose ball and returned it the rest of the way for the touchdown.  An unsportsmanlike penalty, for the celebration, forced the Night Hawks to attempt the PAT from the 17-yardline.  The attempt was no good.  Thomas trailed at the half, 16-12.

Keiser went on to score 28 unanswered points in the second half, making the final score Keiser 44 Thomas 12.  The Night Hawks were held to 169 yards of total offense.    Thomas won the time of possession battle at 30:57 to 29:03.  The Night Hawk defense forced two turnovers in the game.

Charles Britt was 7/10 for 77 yards passing.  James Amaker led the ground attack with 33 yards on 12 attempts. Tremal Hall led the receivers with 3 catches for 58 yards and the special teams touchdown.  Defensively, Fabian Yarbrough led the Night Hawk defense with 12 tackles, followed by Adrian Traylor with 8 tackles and an assisted tackle for loss.

The Night Hawks, finally, return to the Rose City, this Saturday, to face Ave Maria.  Kickoff is set for noon at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.  To purchase tickets for Saturday, please click here.
