Night Hawks Fall to Grizzlies

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – The Thomas University Women's Soccer team took a slight break in SSAC action this week as the Night Hawks turned their attention to non-conference opponent Georgia Gwinnett, dropping the road contest 6-2 Friday night.

Gwinnett (5-1-3, 0-0-0) immediately got off to a hot start as Grace Clark scored the first goal of the night for GGC. Gwinnett did not hesitate to answer again with another goal to push their lead to 2-0 early in the contest as Kyra Amernta got on the board.

Gwinnett was not done scoring before entering the locker room for the half as Aurora Miglio added a goal of her own with an assist from Caroline Andersen.

Thomas (4-4-1, 0-0-1) eventually found a solid answer and small comeback of their own as Freshman Kaitlyn Herb scored the only goal of the first half for Thomas with an assist from Freshman Pearl Mortimer in the 41st minute.

The Grizzlies came out of the locker room with yet another statement maker from Caroline Andersen to push their lead in the 48' minute. Almost four minutes later, Gwinnett's Kendra Davis continued the scoring.

Senior Aquene Tollefson added a stat of her own to give Thomas their second goal of the game at the 67' minute mark.

Georgia Gwinnett took an opportunity to raise their lead off a penalty kick from Kyara Armenta, before the clock striked zero to conclude the contest.

The Grizzlies were able to take a total of thirteen shots with (11) of those on goal as Thomas led the category with sixteen and (9) on goal. GGc saw a total of seven saves on the day as Thomas ended the match with five. Additionally, Gwinnett had two opportunities at corner kicks as Thomas had five.

The Night Hawks will be back in action this upcoming Thursday at home against SSAC opponent, Dalton State. Kickoff is set for 4:30pm EST.
