MARION, IN– The Thomas University Men's Track and Field team continued their historic journey this past Thursday in Marion, IN for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. Two Freshman concluded their season with high hopes for the future.
Freshman Seth Humphries competed in the 800 meters, notching a 22nd overall finish for a time of 1:55.60. Additionally, the Branford, Fla native placed high amongst all Freshmen in the meet, earning a third-team All-American honors.
Head Coach Scott Gowan expressed his gratitude towards the reigning SUN Conference Indoor and Outdoor Freshman of the Year. "What a year for Seth!" said Head Coach Scott Gowan. " He was the second-best 800-meter Freshman in the NAIA today!" "He had an outstanding Indoor and Outdoor season, earning a combined total of six conference honors and setting eight school records. He also won the SUN Conference Indoor title in the 1000 run and outdoor 4x400 relay. " Seth gained valuable experiences today by running in the National meet, which will help him down the road."
Gowan gave Humphries words of encouragement with knowing the bright future Seth has. " He was a little disappointed today but he will be back next year and will be ready to contend for a spot in the finals."
Freshman Michael Eady competed in the 100 meter dash, placing 30th overall for a time of 10.66.
Scott Gowan took time to express his thoughts about the Valdosta, Ga native. "Michael had an outstanding freshman year and scored points in the 60 meters during the indoor season, 100M and 4x100 for the outdoor season.
Eady has made his marks in numerous ways in TU's record books. " He set TU school records in the 60 meters, 100M, 200M and 4x100 relay." Said Scott Gowan. "He qualified and competed in the 100M and 4x100 relay for the Green and White." "Michael is just a freshman and he will be back!" "He learned a lot about the sport and I feel confident that he will return for his Sophomore season as one of the spot sprinters in both the SSAC and NAIA."
