Night Hawks Walk It Off AGAIN vs. #10 Webber International

Thomas earns its second consecutive victory in their last at bat!

The Night Hawks (21-25, 6-12) win their second consecutive game against the #10 Webber International (34-13, 9-9), both in walk-off fashion.  For the Night Hawks, the win represents their sixth win this season in their final at bat, with all of them being over ranked teams or teams receiving votes.

In those final at bat games, Thomas won at Georgia Gwinnett on February 18, 10-9, when they were ranked #8.  The Night Hawks defeated St. Thomas on the road on March 17, 7-6, when they were ranked #13.  Thomas defeated the #1 HBCU in NCAA Division II at home on April 5, 7-6, in 11 innings.  TU beat Keiser 12-10 on April 16 at home when the Seahawks were receiving votes.  And this weekend, Thomas picked two victories over the tenth ranked team in the nation.
 

How It Happened

Hits and runs were non-existent through the first four-and-a-half innings, as neither team could muster up a hit against each other.  Through four inning, Thomas' only base runner came via a hit-by-pitch.  Michael Sowers finally picked up the Night Hawks first hit, but was unable to score.  

AJ Wydra was able to take a no-hitter into the 7th inning, when he appeared to slightly injure himself on a delivery.  Wydra was able to finish the at bat, but gave up his first hit and was subsequently removed from the game.  Webber would go on to hit a three-run homerun in the inning , to finally break the ice.  The Warriors would lead 4-0 after their half of the inning.

Thomas would begin to walk down Webber in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Bradley Fleenor would lead of with a walk.  Josh Johnson would single to left field, followed by a Sowers single to left field, also to load the bases.  Chandler Skelly would be hit by a pitch to score the first run for the Night Hawks.  Jose Class, Jr. would would single to center field to plate two more runs for the Night Hawks, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Webber International would add another run in the top of the 8th inning, to increase their lead to 5-3.  Fleenor would walk again to lead off this inning for the Night Hawks, followed by a Luis Rodriguez-Gallo walk.  Fleenor would score on a Sowers single.  Luis Torres would drive in Gallo, the tying run, on a fielder's choice.

In the bottom of the 9th inning, Kason Buie would lead the inning off with a hit-by-pitch.  Cam Williams would reach on a fielder's choice and later steal 2nd base.  Gallo and Johnson would walk to load the bases.  Sowers would step to the plate and single up the middle to end the contest on Senior Day.

Notes

  • Michael Sowers was 4/5 on the day, with two RBIs.
  • AJ Wydra, including his previous start, pitch 12 consecutive scoreless innings.
  • With the win, Thomas moves into 7th place in the Sun Conference.  They trail Florida Memorial by one game, but FMU owns the tie-breaker versus Thomas.  The Night Hawks must win one more game that the Lions in order to qualify for the Sun Conference Tournament.
