Thomas (21-19, 10-12 SUN) falls to Warner (17-22, 8-11 SUN), 4-2, in the opening game of their three game series. The game did not feature much offense, with both teams getting all of their runs in one big inning. For Warner, the victory is key, as they can tie Thomas in the win column with a sweep of the series. Thomas, currently sits in fifth place in the Sun Conference standings, training St. Thomas by two games in the loss column, with Warner trailing the Night Hawks by two games in the win column. The series is the final conference games for the Night Hawks, as they try to position themselves for the Sun Conference Softball Tournament, the first week of May. Â
How It Happened
Thomas gave up a grand slam to Warner in the 4th inning. The Royals saw runner reach by an error, a single, and a walk, prior to the homerun. Despite Warner threatening in other innings, that would be the only time the Royals were able to plate any runs.
Thomas would attempt a comeback in the 7th inning, whenÂ
Jaelynn Vialpando led off the inning with a walk.Â
Elizabeth Soto was hit by a pitch during the next at bat.Â
Kennedy Hardy would single to right field to drive in
Leah Grant, who was inserted as a runner for Vialpando. Alley would later score on a wild pitch. Despite having a runner on second base with one out, the Night Hawks were unable to sustain the rally, and would lose, 4-2.
