Griffin Holds Mariners Scoreless Through Four Innings

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Junior pitcher Amber Griffin held the College of Coastal Georgia scoreless through four innings, but Thomas University ultimately fell, 5-0, to the Mariners in Sunday's Sun Conference rubber match at Armory Field.

On Saturday, CCG won the first game, 5-1, then the Night Hawks took the second game, 4-3.

Pitcher Amber Griffin held the Mariners scoreless through 4.1 innings, scattering four hits and walking a pair of batters.

Pitcher Dale Elmore came in to get the final two outs of the fifth, then allowed just one hit in the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, TU threatened to score as Averie Sheppard hit a leadoff infield single, then Holly Campbell tagged a base hit to the left side. After a line out, both runners advanced on a long fly out to left field by Adreanna Killingsworth, but Jaelynn Vialpando flew out to right to end the inning.

In the seventh, the TU defense made two errors and Elmore gave up three hits, which allowed the Mariners to plate five runs. Pitcher Leanne Lain closed the game for the Night Hawks. She faced the final batter, forcing a fly out.

Sheppard and Grace Hodges each tagged a pair of hits for TU, and Campbell and Emma Alley each connected on one hit.

Up next for Thomas is a non-conference midweek double header with Haskell University. First pitch is Tuesday, March 14 at 1 p.m.
