TU Pitches a Shut Out of Haskell

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas University senior pitcher Leanne Lain struck out six in the Night Hawks' 8-0 win over Haskell Indian Nations University Tuesday at Armory Field.

Lain pitched all six innings in her second victory of the season, allowing just two hits and walking a pair of her 20 batters faced.

Thomas improves to 9-10 with the victory.

The Night Hawks scored at least one run in five of the six innings, connecting on 13 hits, all singles.

Averie Sheppard went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Addyson Mauldin was 3-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored. Holly Campbell led the team with two RBI.

Sheppard started the scoring with a leadoff single in the first, then stole second base. Campbell flew out to right, advancing Sheppard to third. Mauldin then tagged a base hit to center, scoring TU's first run.

In the bottom of the second, TU piled on three more runs. Elizabeth Soto hit a leadoff single to short, and advanced to second on a sac bunt from Hodges. Hailie Stewart drew a walk, then a base hit to center by Sheppard plated Soto. Campbell singled to center to drive in two more runs.

Haskell had runners on first and second in the top of the third, with two outs, but a pick off play stranded the two Fightin' Indians.

In the fourth, Stewart drew a leadoff walk then stole second and advanced to third on a base hit from Sheppard. After a line out, Mauldin drew a walk, then Adreanna Killingsworth sent a sac fly to right, plating Stewart.

TU scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth as Ava Nunez singled to center field, stole second and advanced to third on a base hit from Soto. Nunez then scored on a wild pitch and Soto touched home after Grace Hodges was thrown out on a grounder to third.

The Night Hawks' final run came in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Mauldin hit an infield single, then a base hit by Jaelynn Vialpando and a single from Nunez plated the final run.
