Softball Rattles the Bats at Point

WEST POINT, Ga. – The Thomas University softball team defeated Point University 17-5 in the first game, then lost, 8-3, in the second game Friday afternoon.
 
The Night Hawks next travel to Waleska, Ga., on Saturday to play against Reinhardt University. First pitch of the double header is at noon.
 
 
Game One
The two teams combined for 35 hits in the first game, with TU scoring 17 runs from 19 hits. The Night Hawks scored six in the first, then added two in the third and a pair in the fourth before Point plated two in the fourth and a couple more in the fifth inning. Each team added one run in the sixth, then Thomas again plated six in the top of the seventh to earn the 17-5 victory.
 
Maddie Denning blasted a 3-run homer in the seventh and AnnMarie McAfee hit a solo shot in the sixth, going 3-for-3 at the plate for the game.
 
Hailie Stewart tagged a trio of doubles and collected three RBI, while Grace Hodges and Holly Campbell also had three hits at the plate.
 
Amber Griffin earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs from nine hits in 4.0 innings. Briana Boggs came in to close, allowing three runs from seven hits and striking out one in 3.0 innings.
 
 
Game Two
Point plated one run in the first and a pair in the second inning to take the early lead. Each team scored one in the fifth, and TU added another in the top of the sixth, but the Night Hawks were unable to recover from allowing four runs from Point in the bottom of the sixth. Tiana Villagomez hit a solo homer in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as TU lost, 8-3.
 
Holly Campbell went 2-for-4 with an RBI double to lead the Night Hawks in hits. Addyson Mauldin also connected on a double in the game.
 
Leanne Lain pitched 4.2 innings for the Night Hawks, walking six and striking out one, and allowing four runs from four hits to take the loss.
