Women's Soccer Win and Advance to Montgomery

Defeat Dalton State 2-1

Thomasville, GA | On Friday afternoon, the Thomas Night Hawks women defeated Dalton State, 2-1, to advance to the Southern States Athletic Conference semifinals.  The victory marks the 100th victory for Coach Julie Orlowski at Thomas, and her 234th overall.

The game opened as a defensive battle.  Thomas, however, was able to muster six shots, while holding Dalton State to only half as many shots.  Of the shots taken, each team was able to have two be on-goal.

In the 69th minute, the Roadrunners were able to crack the scoreboard first, with a shot by Lesley Alanis from about 40-yards away, that caught the right-post and found its way in the goal.

The deficit did not deter the Night Hawks.  A little more than three minutes later, Pearl Mortimer would tie the score from right in front of the goal.  Kaitlyn Herb's would shoot a long pass to Sasha Manders, who would send the ball towards the goal and Motimer would sent it home, to tie the score.

Thomas remained aggressive.  In the 86th minute, Kaitlyn Herb would score a goal off of an Ali Baca assist, to increase the Night Hawk lead to 2-1.

Thomas was able to play keep away, from that point on, as the Roadrunners were unable to get a shot in the final four minutes.

Emily Lamoreaux would go the entire distance in goal, stopping four of the five Dalton shots on-goal.  The Roadrunners would only take eight shots for the day.  Thomas shot the ball 20 times, with eight shots on-goal.  Thomas took seven corner kicks, compared to one by Dalton State.

Thomas will move on to the semifinal round of the conference tournament to face #1 seed William Carey, in Montgomery, AL on Wednesday, November 8.  The time and location of the match will be announced this weekend.  For up-to-date information on this game and other TU Athletics, visit http://www.TUNightHawks.com.
