Montgomery, AL | The Thomas Night Hawks Women's Soccer Team season came to an end, at the hand of #1 William Carey, 7-0, at the Southern States Athletic Conference Soccer Tournament. For the Night Hawks, the game concluded a season that saw Thomas go 11-7-1 (6-3-1 SSAC).
William Carey, the top rated team in the NAIA, was able to get on the scoreboard early, against Thomas, scoring three goals in the first twelve minutes of the game. By the time halftime occurred, the Crusaders owned a 5-0 advantage. The second half saw Thomas give up goal six in the 53rd minute, and goal seven in the 63rd minute. For the Crusaders, five different players accounted for the seven goals.
William Carey out-shot Thomas, a whopping 34-4 on the day. The Crusaders had 18 shots on goal, compared to three by Thomas. Thomas was only able to attempt two corners and William Carey was able to take nine corner kicks.
Sasha Manders and
Kaitlyn Herb, the SSAC Freshman of the Year, were the only Night Hawks able to get a shot off against the Crusaders defense.
CONFERENCE SUPERLATIVES
At the banquet, prior to the semifinals, Thomas was able to take home some hardware.
Kaitlyn Herb was voted Freshman of the Year.
Ali Baca, Herb, and
Jade Slaybaugh were voted to the SSAC Second Team All-Conference. Marian McKinney was voted as the SSAC Champion of Character for Thomas.
Pearl Mortimer, Herb, and
Ruby Melis made the All-Freshman team. Multiple Night Hawks were selected for the SSAC All-Academic Team:
