Cochran, Ga- The Thomas University Women's Soccer team (6-5-1, 2-2-1) took on Middle Georgia State (2-7-2, 1-4-1) Thursday evening.Â
In the first half, Thomas would find several opportunities to get onto the scoreboard. During the 10th minute of the contest, Kaitlyn Herb would strike first with a goal assisted by Sasha Manders. Soon after, Kaitlyn Herb would find Pearl Mortimer who would put the Night Hawks up 2-0. Thomas wouldn't stop there. Just six minutes later, Sasha Manders would record her second assist as she found Aquene Tollefson who would give Thomas a 3-0 lead. Middle Georgia would eventually respond with a goal of their own during the 31st minute of the contest. Thomas would enter the half holding a 3-1 lead.
Thomas carried this momentum into the second half. In the first minute, Pearl Mortimer would record her first assist as she found Elsebeth Andersen for a goal. This would increase the Night Hawks' lead to 4-1. However, the Knights would respond and score two goals of their own during the 48th and 51st minute of the contest. Kaitlyn Herb would then tally her second goal of the contest during the 52nd minute, assisted by Ruby Melis, to give the Night Hawks a 5-3 lead. At the 70th minute Middle Georgia would add another goal, but Thomas' defense would prevent a comeback to ultimately take a 5-4 victory.Â
In total, the Night Hawks would record ten shots, with eight on goal, and three corner kicks. The Knights would take twelve shots, with nine on goal, and two corner kicks. Thomas' Hannah Keene would tally five saves.Â
The Night Hawks will return to the pitch Saturday as they travel to Mount Vernon, Georgia to take on Brewton-Parker College. Kickoff is set for 1:30PM.Â
